Dear Colleagues and Friends

After 12 years with PROWEB it is with a sad heart that I would like to bid you farewell as I step down as Executive Director of PROWEB. It’s been a roller coaster of experiences with its ups and downs, its highs and lows but all building up to an enriched and wealthier experience. Some of my greatest highlight just to mention a few were the hosting of Business Women of South Africa (BWASA) /PROWEB trade mission, the study tour with Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development to understudy the Gender Commission in Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya and also my representation of PROWEB in Amsterdam to talk about Successful mentorship programmes.

I am excited to be leaving an organisation that is well recognised and respected in the field of women empowerment with many organisations courting it for possible collaborations.
Especially, I want to thank the Board Trustees and the Secretariat, Tineyi Hungwe Project Officer, Catherine Nyatara Administration Officer , Anita Maketo Project Assistant, Interns Barbra Kachembere and Anesu Matizanadzo for enabling me and supporting me during this process.

I have met wonderful women during these years and my network is richer because of you all. I will continue as Trustee, mentor and trainer so definitely our paths will cross at some point.
To this end I would like to say thank you all.

I leave to concentrate on family business but I am happy to introduce to you Moira Ngaru who takes over as the PROWEB Executive Director from the 1st June 2017. Moira is a seasoned professional with more than 20 years experience in women economic empowerment. PROWEB Empowering Youths in Zimbabwe

By | Information, Mentorship, News

PROWEB entered into partnership with the Zimbabwe Works Project, under International Youth Foundation to train . The partnership is training young adults for Employability and Entrepreneurship skills. The desired outcome of the programme is to transform the lives of young women and men through provision of professional and business skills that enable them to participate in key economic processes. The project has since trained 813 young men and women aged 20-35 years and 250 youths for employability. It has managed to place 100 youths for internship and job placement with different companies in Zimbabwe.

Gamuchirai’s Success Story

Gamuchirai Nyamakura graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with a BSc Honours Degree in Agriculture (Animal Science) in October 2015. Having received little career guidance together with the economic hardships in the country, she was not able to effectively secure a job. A whole year passed by. She then learnt about the Zimbabwe: Works program which was being facilitated by PROWEB.

Gamuchirai did not hesitate to register and was shortly selected as a beneficiary of the program. Thereafter she was invited to attend a three day capacity building training workshop on Access to Formal Sector Employment held from the 20th to the 22nd of April 2016. This was followed by 31 Passport to Success training sessions facilitated by the PROWEB team which equipped her with personal and career development aspects like knowing how to make a positive first impression, writing a CV and cover letter, assertiveness and goal setting.

After the training workshops PROWEB managed to refer Gamuchirai to three interviews. The first two were at Tererai Trent International Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Both organizations required someone with a strong Crop Science background so she did not qualify. However this experience boosted her confidence such that when she was sent to Profeeds she performed exceptionally well and was hired as a graduate trainee.

Gamuchirai is now working at the Profeeds Centre in Banket where she sells the company products and assists farmers with technical advice. She is grateful for the opportunity to benefit from the Zimbabwe: Works program. Most importantly because the skills that she has acquired during the trainings make her work easier. She says dealing with people in such a challenging environment now comes natural to her!
